What is POP3 |
POP3
(Post Office Protocol, version 3) is
a protocol that allows you to download
your messages when you want to from
a mailbox on a mail server (usually
at your ISP) to your local machine using
an email client (such as Outlook Express,
Eudora, Netscape Messenger etc).

Outlook Express
The
process will explain how to set up your
POP mail account using Outlook Express.
Same technical information can also
be provided for Netscape.
After opening Outlook Express, cancel
all operations that it is trying to
run and click 'Tools' then 'Accounts'.

| Click
on mail and new as shown in the picture
below. |

| |
| Type
your name and click on next |
| |
|
| |
| Key
in the complete email address and click
on next.. |
| |

| |
|
Key in the incoming
POP3 and outgoing SMTP as shown in the
example given under. Incoming POP3 will
be your domain name i.e healthfileds.com.
Outgoing SMTP will be smtp.healthfields.com
.
Please
note here that some ISP’s do not
allow any other SMTP on their network.
In those cases, outgoing SMTP must be
obtained from the ISP and defined accordingly. |

| Key
in the complete email Id with domain name
i.e raman.sharma@healthfields.com. Click
on next and finish. |

| Double
click on the email account shown i.e.
healthfields.com |
| |
|
| |
| Click
on server and check the option “
My server require authentication”
shown in the bottom. |

| |
Apply
the settings; close all the setting options
and start using outlook express.
Microsoft
Outlook Open
Microsoft Outlook, click on tools and
then Email Accounts |

| Select
add a new email account and click on next. |
| |
|
| |
| Select
POP3 as shown in picture and click on
next. |
| |
|
| |
|
Key in your name,
email and other details as shown below.
Please note that the examples are given
based on a domain www.psspl.com. All
the information must be fed in in accordance
to your email Id and domain name.
i.e.
Your name is Ritu Singhal and email
id is rs@fashionstore.com
Setting would be
Your
Name : Ritu Singhal
Email Adress : rs@fashionstore.com
Incoming POP3 : fashionstore.com
Outgoing SMTP : smtp.fashionstore.com |

on more settings thereafter, select
outgoing server and check the option
“ My outgoing server (SMTP) requires
authentication. |

| Close
all windows and start using outlook
express. |
